Background information
 Alan Davies was born in Essex, the second of three children he has an old brother and a younger sister. His mother sadly passed away when he was six years old, and he was raised by his father.
He went to Bancroft School in Woodford Green and left there with eight O'levels when he was 16 in 1982. He then moved on to Loughton College of Further Education where he got four more O'Level and two A'Levels (studied Media Studies & Theatre Studies). He was taught theatre skills by Piers Gladhill who also got Alan his first gig in 1988 at the Black Cat Cabaret in Stoke Newington. He didn't enjoy his time at Bancroft, but in some respects that's made him what he is today.
Alan lived in Loughton, Essex for much of his life, until the comedy bug hit him, and he left to pursue his now well established career. Alan became a comedian thanks to the Enterprise Allowance Scheme which was funded by the government! He now lives in Islington, London.
Alan is a vegetarian and a member of the CND. At university he was actively involved in campaigning for animal rights.
 Alan's best loved acting role is of course Jonathan Creek. Thanks to the superb writing of David Renwick and Alan's acting skills, Jonathan Creek has captured the hearts of the nation. Although already in talks with the BBC over the role, Alan managed to clinch the part by turning up at a BBC party in his now famous duffel coat!
Among Alan's latest projects are the Abbey National Adverts and A Many Splintered Thing, Bob and Rose, as well as a documentary series on stand-up comedians. Alan is also busy writing a new comedy something or other, but he's not keen to elaborate at the moment.
